Learning Outcomes for Grade 1 Mathematics

Strand: Shape and Space - Measurement

General Outcome: Use direct and indirect measurement to solve problems.

1. Demonstrate an understanding of measurement as a process of comparing by:

- identifying attributes that can be compared

  • I can tell one way that two things can be measured.

- ordering objects

  • I can arrange a set of objects from shortest to longest and longest to shortest.
  • I can arrange a set of objects from lightest to heaviest and heaviest to lightest.
  • I can arrange how much containers hold (volume); from the least to most.
  • I can arrange areas from smallest to largest and largest to smaller.

- making statements of comparison

  • I can decide which attribute (length, mass, volume, area) to use when comparing two objects.

- filling, covering or matching.
